Great diversity, fewer chances
Prof. Dr. Heiner Barz, Head of the Department of Educational Research and Educational Management at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf and a member of the Scientific Advisory Board at SINUS-Institut, led the project “Education, Milieu & Migration” funded by Stiftung Mercator and Vodafone Foundation Germany. It was the first time the social model Sinus Migrant Milieus was applied to the education sector. This allowed a differentiated look at the different lifeworlds of people with a migration background in Germany and determination of the typical educational experiences and attitudes in each case. The study provides important information on how projects and approaches in the education system can be better tailored to heterogeneous target groups and how disadvantaged children and young people can be supported in a more targeted way in the future.
