Attitudes towards environmental and climate protection in Germany

On behalf of heimatwurzeln e.V., SINUS-Institut conducted a representative study on the attitudes of Germans towards environmental and climate protection and political participation.
Background
heimatwurzeln e.V. is committed to constructive dialogue on environmental and climate protection and aims to counteract increasing social polarization. The focus is on people who feel strongly connected to their roots, their traditions and their local environment - but who do not belong to the traditional climate movement. The aim is to give these groups a voice and to develop practical, socially and economically sustainable solutions for environmental protection.
In order to better understand the core and potential target groups of heimatwurzeln e.V., an empirical study was carried out. Among other things, this serves as a baseline measurement in order to be able to observe long-term developments - for example in terms of problem awareness and self-efficacy perception.
Key findings
- Hardly any trust in climate policy: Only 3% in the Nostalgic Middle Class Milieu and 6% in the Adaptive-Pragmatic Middle Class Milieu have trust in the actions of politicians when it comes to climate and environmental protection.
- Cost of living before climate protection: As is the case for the lower-class milieus, the cost of living is currently much more relevant than the ecological issue.
- High disenchantment with politics: In the Nostalgic Middle Class Milieu, 78% think that politicians are indifferent to the people. In the Adaptive-Pragmatic Middle Class Milieu, the figure is 59%.
