Nature awareness 2021 – in-depth scientific report
Every two years since 2009, SINUS-Institut has been conducting the Nature Awareness study series of the Federal Ministry for the Environment and the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation to monitor social awareness of nature and nature conservation.
The in-depth report presents the results of the newly developed social indicator "Awareness of biodiversity". This is made up of ten psychological factors that can be aggregated into a single overall index value.
In addition, the report focuses on a comparison of survey methods and their influence on the measured values collected: The data collection of the 2021 Nature Awareness Study is based on a mixed-method design. Around half of the interviews were conducted as computer-assisted personal interviews (CAPI), the other half as an online survey (CAWI). In order to investigate whether a variation in the survey methodology affects the results of the newly conceptualized social indicator (method effect), the results of the CAWI survey were compared with the results of the CAPI survey.
