Nature Awareness Study (2023)

Every two years, the Nature Awareness Study shows how important nature and biodiversity are in the eyes of citizens. The study is published by the Federal Ministry for the Environment and the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation and is conducted by SINUS-Institut.

The Nature Awareness Study examines how people in Germany perceive nature, how they are committed to its conservation and how they assess current nature conservation policy issues. As a monitoring of social trends, it provides up-to-date and empirically verified data that offers a valuable basis for nature conservation policy, public discourse and educational work.

The 2023 study focuses on natural climate protection and the restoration of ecosystems. The study is also dedicated to the topics of wilderness and water, the willingness of the population to support a transformative change towards sustainable and nature-compatible ways of living and doing business, the general commitment to nature conservation, the personal relationship between humans and nature, social awareness of biodiversity and the topics of energy transition and genetic engineering.
